Caledon
Caledon has succeeded in achieving the comfortable feel of country life while offering the urbanization and industry needed for economic growth. The largest municipality in the Peel Region, with a population of 51,079, residents have easy access to Highways 401, 9, 50 and 10, Pearson International Airport, GO Transit and downtown Toronto.
The town has new recreational facilities, such as the Caledon Centre for Recreation and Wellness, with more on the way. Currently there are eight libraries, 19 public and private schools, a private ski resort, six golf courses, six conservation areas and 11 community centers, pools and arenas.
Hospitality is a major industry in Caledon. An ideal spot for a day trip away from Toronto, Caledon offers visitors the option of country fairs, trade shows, craft shows and historic villages with specialty shops and galleries. Trailway Day is a big event for residents and visitors alike. A like to the Trans-Canada Trail, the Caledon Trailway stretches approximately 36 kilometres and is enjoyed year-round for walking, hiking, cycling, horseback riding and cross-country skiing. The trail allows users to experience the beauty of the Niagara Escarpment, the Credit and the Humber rivers, as well as the Caledon and Albion Hills. The Humber Valley Heritage Trail is another trail that passes through the Town of Caledon. It follows the Humber River for a 14-kilometre stretch throughout the Valley.
Much of Caledon's industry and development centres around Bolton. Over 500 industrial firms are located in the Bolton South Hill Industrial Area. Plastics, food processing, steel, wood manufacturing and transportation-related businesses are among the area's main industries.
The communities of Bolton, Palgrave, Caledon East, Inglewood, Cheltenham, Mayfield West, Terra Cotta, Belfountain, Alton, Cataract, and Mono Mills all lie within the town's borders. Caledon provides a diversity of housing types ranging from large country estate developments to small non-profit apartments. The majority of housing developments are single-detached dwellings.
